Sneaks Day 4: Heaven & Nature Sing!

Hi all and welcome to Day 4 of the Power Poppy Sneaks for our Happiest Holiday Collection -- Part 2! Today's set is one that literally took my breath away!!!

Heaven and Nature Sing features little birdies on a branch of holly adorned with a few Lenten Rose blossoms for a splash of pizzazz! Don't you just love these sweet little creatures? The set also comes with a Lenten Rose spray, and a few more holly pieces to use to create with reckless abandon! I see fun tags, borders and backgrounds in this set's future for sure!

On to my creation!

I started by stamping the image with Memento Espresso Truffle and then, picked up something new in my craft room -- Tim Holtz Distress Markers. I absolutely LOVE these. I really hesitated getting them because I thought my Copics didn't need any competition. But after trying them, they really are a wonderful medium that gives you deep color without a ton of effort. I used Shabby Shudders, Stormy Sky, Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Barn Door, Forest Moss, Scattered Straw and Wild Honey. I did a mix of coloring directly on my image and scribbling the marker on a palette and picking it up with a blender pen.

After I was done coloring, I did sponge on some Antique Linen and then used this little number -- the Distress Marker Spritzer to get those little spray marks. I think this is a super fun effecrt!

All of the paper is Teresa Collins. I added a bit of pink Hug Snug ribbon and a Queen and Co. goosebump rhineston. There are a few dots of white paint pen to give the birdies' eyes and some of the berries a splash of highlight and.. ta da! Done!

This image is so gorgeous, I know that you are going to want to see all the different ways the Bloom Brigade put their creative touch on it! So, hop on over and see....

Sneaks Day 2: O Holy Night!

Well, if you liked yesterday's Power Poppy sneak peek Bough Wow Wow, you're going to love today's offering just as much! It's a classic image that truly captures the peaceful feel of the season!

O Holy Night, featuring a classic snow-covered church on Christmas Eve, can be stamped classically in one color for an on-the-go creation or can be colored up in its full moon-lit glory! This image is paired with five reverent sentiments, perfect to share the true meaning of the season!

On to my creation!

I knew when I saw this image that I wanted to stamp it in navy blue AND I wanted to make sure it was really razzle dazzled up with glitter. With that in my head, I decided to dig through my dies and find one that would truly help this image take center stage! I turned to the die called Fancy Ribbon Threader.  from Spellbinders! I stamped the image using Nautical Blue and then matted it below my framed die cut. I will say that this die is normally solid in the center (not a frame). After embossing the die, I kept the die on my paper and used an X-acto knife to cut out that center panel. I threaded the ribbon slots with some sheer, irridescent trim white ribbon and then added a frame of rhinestones! The base was embossed with the Spellbinders Embossing Folder called Holiday Magic. Add some Diamond Stickles glitter glue and.. ta da! Done!

I can guarantee you that the rest of the Bloom Brigade has taken this set and put a whole new and beautiful spin on it! So, what are you waiting for? Stop on by and see what gorgeous creations their ever-so-talented hands created using it!

Sneak Peak 1: Bough Wow Wow!

Hello all! Are you ready to help Power Poppy "ring" in more fun for the holiday season ahead? Well, the Bloom Brigade sure is! Today marks day 1 of the Happiest Holidays Collection -- PART TWO! Over the course of the next four days, we'll be showing off new stamp sets to make your holiday season even merrier!

Ready for the first sneaky peak? This set just makes my heart flutter!

This set -- Bough Wow Wow -- truly puts the WOW into Christmas Boughs! This set features two splashy, greenery-stuffed swags! Who doesn't love a holly-packed swag full of vintage glass ornaments? Or, how about a boxwood bough stuffed with warm and fuzzy things like wool mittens, ribbon streams and fuzzy little pom poms? Too fun!

On to my creation!

Okay, I have to admit that I need to freshen up my winter/Christmas paper offerings. After digging through my patterned paper packs -- I found one I do love from last year! Remember Echo Park's Keepin' Cozy? Love the reds and blues and I decided to use that paper to set the tone of my creation! I stamped my image using Memento Espresso Truffle and then reached for something kind of new in my stamp room --- my Ranger Distress Ink markers! I used Shabby Shudders, Stormy Sky, Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, and Forest Moss. To color up my image, I did a mix of coloring directly on my image and scribbling the marker on a palette and picking it up with a blender pen. I am loving having these markers in my stash of goodies! So fun to use!

When all was said and done, I added some accents with a white gel pen and then, of course, some glitter glue! See?

After I die cut an oval with my image and added some sponged Broken China Distress Ink, I added a Stampin' Up button, a half doily, some red and white twine and some little enamel dots from Stampin' Up in the corner! And that, my friends, is it!

Because this set is so perfect for ushering in some holiday cheer, you will have to stop by and see how all the "Bloomers" used this merry little set!

Julie Koerber >>> you are here!

I'll see you back here tomorrow as Power Poppy pulls the lid off another new set! "Soft" and "Peaceful" are two words that you could use to describe this beauty! See you back here then!

Something's Sketchy!

Hey all! It's Monday -- which means I pull out a sketch from the PageMaps archives, tinker, create and then, share it here! For today's card, I wanted to challenge myself to take one of the sketches and simplify it -- making it a 10 minute creation! Who doesn't need a few of those up their sleeves for those cards "in a jiffy" occasions?

Here's a peek at the card....

And here's a peek at the sketch!

You can see, the sketch has a wee bit more going on -- like the scalloped border and some accents behind the image. I chose to simplify! I traded a button for a floral and washi tape for the punched border. The ruffled accent over top the sentiment went underneath. While I took a cleaner take on the sketch -- you can still see that it's there! ;-)

My stamp is from Penny Black's Truly Great cling stamp set. I love that sentiment! It's so nice when a sentiment can take center stage, don't you think? The paper pad is called A Mother's Love by My Mind's Eye. The flower is Prima. The washi tape is from Stampin' Up and the ribbon is Hug Snug Melon. Just that easy!

Here's a close up of that cute sentie! I had to -- of course -- add a little bling! ;-)

If you need a little sketchy inspiration, it's only a click away HERE at Pagemaps' CardMaps gallery! You can click HERE for the newests sketches and HERE for the whole shebang that Becky Fleck has created! Too much fun if you ask me!

Hope you have a fabulous start to your week and I'll see you back here soon!

Get Smooshed!

Hi all! If you joined me Monday, you know that I am hosting one of the fun-filled Hope You Can Cling To challenges over on Splitcoaststampers!! And, if you haven't yet -- you should play along! Not only are all the challenges a blast, BUT, there is an opportunity to lift the spirits of women battling breast cancer at MD Anderson. AND, There's also about $5000 in prizes from some of your favorite crafty companies!

Just click HERE to join in on the fun!

My challenge is all about the  Ink Spray Smash Technique! And, what's fun is the fact that this past Monday, Dina Kowal created a brand new video on the technique! Just click that link and scroll down to see. She took some fun twists with this one!

I also took this technique and threw in a twist! I wanted to show you step-by-step!

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED:
  • a complimentary array of re-inkers
  • a mister
  • glossy paper
  • stencils
  • sponge

Start by dropping every one of the reinkers all over the glossy card stock, have a second piece of glossy card stock waiting in the wings!

Using the mister, spray paper until you get the colors to run. Then, grab that second piece of paper and literally "smash" them together! I even twisted the paper a bit to really mash the colors together!

After letting the colors dry a bit, this is the result!

Because I wanted to add a little more interest, I grabbed a few of my Tim Holtz Layering Stencils and took the Love Letter and Tangelo Memento inks and a sponge and sponged some more ink over top!

I also used the stencil called Stripes. And, this below is the result!

And here's a look at my finished card! You can see that I stamped the Paper Lantern stamp from Power Poppy's Sunny Harvest set over top using Memento Tuxedo Black. After heat setting the ink, I did use YR04, YR07, YR09, R27, and E55 Copic Markers to add some color and depth to the paper lanterns. After that, I added a white paint pen and added some dots and highlights just to add a little more drama!

The rest is just matting it up! I have to say that I used the extra piece of paper for my sentiment (also from the Sunny Harvest set!). I used the Spellbinders Labels Seventeen for my main image, added some crazy paper piercing, May Arts crochet trim and... ta da! Done!

SO.....WHY NOT GIVE THIS TECHNIQUE A TRY and....join me with Hope You Can Cling To? The  Master Challenge Thread can be found  HERE.  (My challenge is HYCCT1420.) You have until November 7th at noon CST to be in the running for some of those fabulous prizes! :-)

And, because we want to lift the spirits of women undergoing cancer treatment, please help us with our Hope You Can Cling To Card Drive!!!

Crafting for a GOOD Cause!

Hello all! Today is a super fun day because I am today's hostess over on Splitcoaststampers for one of their Hope You Can Cling To challenges! Are you playing along this month? It not, you're missing out on the chance to lift the spirits of women battling breast cancer at MD Anderson. There's also about $5000 in prizes from some of your favorite crafty companies!

Just click HERE to join in on the fun!

So what is my challenge? It's called -- GET SMOOSHED! In the past 15 years, more than 200,000 breast cancer deaths have been averted thanks to that ground-breaking test we know and love -- the mammogram. With this challenge, help spread the word! All you need to do is try one of these fun Splitcoast tutorials (Ink,Spray,Smash or Acrylic Smash), make a card to inspire others and encourage those women you love to "smoosh or smash" and get that annual mammogram!

I used the  Ink Spray Smash Technique for my creation! If you want to see a fabulous tutorial, all you need to do is click on that link and scroll down to the end for a BRAND NEW video done by the ever-so-talented Dina Kowal!

On to my creation!

I put a bit of a spin on this technique. Instead of just creating a background with ink splatter, I started by stamping the Poinsettia image from Power Poppy on the glossy card stock using Versafine Ink. I heat set the image to make sure that it wouldn't smear and hoped that after I inked up my paper, I would have a beautiful resist image! After heat setting, I squeezed a few dots of  reinkers using Vivid! Bermuda Blue and Memento Summer Sky. I followed the directions of the tutorial -- spray my ink splotted paper with a mist of water and "smash" two pieces of glossy card stock together! I didn't use gloves but man -- I should have! My fingers were MORE than inky! ;-) It was fun though!

From there, I used a Spellbinders embossing folder called Holiday Magic. The main image is matted on some sparkly glitter paper and accented with a sentiment from the Poinsettia set and some sheer sparkly ribbon. Add a splash of bling and that's about it!

WHY NOT GIVE THIS TECHNIQUE A TRY and....join me with Hope You Can Cling To? The  Master Challenge Thread can be found  HERE.  (My challenge is HYCCT1420.) You have until November 7th at noon CST to be in the running for some of those fabulous prizes! :-)

Little Trees for You & Me!

Hi all! Hope you are having the happiest of Fridays! To close out the week, I have a little Christmas inspiration to share! I hadn't used a few of the newly released Power Poppy stamps from the Happiest Holiday Collection and thought that they needed a little love!

On to my creation!

I started by stamping these darling little bottlebrush trees using Memento Toffee Crunch ink and then, grabbed a whole mess of green Copic Markers! I used YG11, YG13, YG17, G20, G24, G28, G40, and G43 and then, accented with R14, R24, Y32, and Y35. The bases were done with E31 and a blender pen and then I accented the trees with some gold marker and white paint pen.

Here's a close up!

The paper is all from last year's Teresa Collins Christmas collection. I added a little pennant flags and some twine with a wood button and that is pretty much it!

Have you been playing along in Power Poppy's Peep of the Week challenge? HERE’S HOW TO PLAY: All you need to do is make and share a new Power Poppy creation. Just that simple! It can be anything — a card, an altered item, a 3D creation, a set of cards, ANYTHING! Click HERE for all the fun-filled details!

10 Minute, Sketch Inspired Creation!

Hi all -- time for another PageMaps Monday -- when we dig into the CardMaps possibilities, pick a sketch and bring it to life! Today's card literally took me 15 minutes and that's why I'm excited to share!

On to my creation!

I have to say, I had already stamped and punched these butterflies and they were just sitting on my stamping desk. The images are from the Stampin' Up set called Kinda Eclectic and I stamped them using Memento Sweet Plum and Memento Cantaloupe. After stamping, I used the Elegant Butterfly punch as well as the Bitty Butterfly Punch.  Once I saw those and saw this sketch below -- I knew I could whip out a card in no time flat!

The panels of decorative paper are 1-7/8" by 3" and then matted onto 2" by 3-1/8" pieces of white card stock. The shorter decorative panels are 1/7/8" square matted on 2" white squares. Attach it to your card front, making sure to wrap one of the longer panels with some silver cording and you're almost done! I did add a sentiment from the Another Thank You clear stamp set from Stampin' up using Sweet Plum, punched it out using a 1" circle punch, matted it on a 1-1/4" circle punch, punched a 1/16" hole at the top, threaded my cording through and then tied it in a bow! Attach the little butterflies with glue dots and accent with rhinestones and... ta da! Done! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Here's a close up of those little butterflies. I am seriously in love with them! ;-)

So you see, inspiration is literally just a click away over at CardMaps! Click HERE to see the latest round of sketches and HERE to go through all of the CardMaps archives! Grab a cup of coffee before you go -- you're going to want to stay awhile! ;-)

PageMaps Monday!

Hi all! Like most Mondays, I like to share a little PageMaps fun to get that creativity started for the week! There's nothing better than picking out a fun sketch and putting it to paper! And, this month, there's a whole new crop of Cardmaps Sketches! Just check them all out HERE!

On to my card! Here's a peek at the finished creation.....

And here's the sketch that inspired it!

I used Penny Black's stamp set called A Bunch for this one. I love the fact that this set has a variety of blossoms and then a handful of ways to display them -- a terra cotta pot, a vase or... like I chose -- I mason jar! ;-)

The images were stamped with Memento Espresso Truffle and then colored with Copic markers Y32, Y35, Y38, Y00, G20, G21, and G24. The jar was stamped on decorative paper, cut out and overlayed so that my flowers looked like they were just happily sitting inside!

Here's a close up!

The rest is just matting it up! All of the papers were from Carta Bella's Hello Again paper pack. I followed the sketch pretty much to a tee -- using an EK Success border punch, some May Arts Twine and a Spellbinders die for the curvy edge.

And that, my friends, is it! Need some inspiration to kick start your week? All you need to do is hop on over to CardMaps and see all the fun sketches for this quarter!

I'll be back soon and hope you will too!

More World Card Making FUN!

Well folks... I'm BACK for more fun on this HAPPY WORLD CARD MAKING DAY!  Like I mentioned HERE, Power Poppy is celebrating this oh-so-special day and honoring all of the creativity that is at the heart of this craft with... a handful of challenges! It is a day that you can WIN some Power Poppy goodness! You'll have to click HERE to see all the fun challenges that Power Poppy has in store!

SO WHAT'S THE NEXT CHALLENGE?

PPWCMD04: FAVORITE THINGS!

HOW TO PLAY: Look around for some of your favorite things and be inspired! Take a photo of a few of those things and then, see it as a bit of an inspiration challenge -- spark a little creativity with the textures, the colors, or even the objects themselves! This one is wide open for interpretation! Not sure about your favorite things? Click HERE and see a photo of some of Marcella's faves and use that as an inspiration piece! Just that simple! You'll also find the official rules HERE along with how long you have to get those entries in!

For my creation, I looked to my kitchen window sill for a little spark of inspiration!

I have no idea why, but I have a "thing" for cute little owls. The owl was my sorority's symbol, so maybe that just stuck with me! My mom and I were shopping one day and I came across this cute little guy. My mom laughed at it and thought it was kinda sorta awful, but I said -- I LOVE IT! Another thing I love are African Violets. I have been growing them literally since my son was born 17 years ago. During all of those years, there hasn't been a time when I haven't had a trio of these bright and bold beauties sitting in my kitchen window!

So for my creation, I chose to be inspired by the teal, ivory, green and bold pink! And, here's my card!

This card is pretty easy peasy. I started by stamping the large floral spray from the BRAND NEW Power Poppy stamp set called Poinsettia! I stamped using Memento Toffee Crunch and then colored it up with Copic Markers. I used: E81, E42, E0000, G21, G11, G24, Y26, Y28, YR0000, R81, R83, RV00, BG0000, and BG11. The papers are all Stampin' Up. The die is Spellbinders Petite Labels One. Add a little bling, some silver cording and a fun rhinestone button!

Here's a close up!

And that, my friends, is it! A pretty simple and sparkly creation that is ready to rock and roll for the holidays! I should mention that one of my fellow Bloom Brigade members, Leslie Miller also joined in on this challenge, so be sure to stop by her place (just click on her name to get there) and see the absolutely gorgeous creation she whipped up!

And... click  HERE  to read up on this challenge and HERE to see all of the challenges going on in this very Happy World Cardmaking Day! Get those fingers inky and join us for some FUN!

Happy World Card Making Day! Here's a challenge for you!

Hello all and.... HAPPY WORLD CARD MAKING DAY! Power Poppy has a ton of fun planned to honor this special day! It's a day for the card making community to unite and celebrate the connection and creativity that is at the very heart of card making!

So, on this day we not only celebrate the hobby we know and love BUT we also say -- join us in the creative effort! And that's why Power Poppy is ushering in a handful of challenges! I took part in the one that kicked off at 8AM this morning! But, you'll have to click HERE to see the other challenges taking place over on the oh-so-fun Power Poppy blog!

SO WHAT'S THE CHALLENGE?

PPWCMD03: CHOOSE HOPE, THINK PINK!

HOW TO PLAY: During this entire month, we honor our mothers, sisters, aunties, friends, grandmothers, and all women facing breast cancer. Let's spark awareness by Thinking PINK on our cards or creations! As a Pink Ribbon Sponsor for Splitcoaststampers' Hope you Can Cling To Campaign, simply join in on one of the Challenges HERE on SCS this month! Link your creations up there and be sure to share your card creation over on the Power Poppy blog as well!

For my challenge creation, I picked Holly Brown's Stripped Down Challenge, where you use strips on your card front for a bit of punch! On to my creation!

I do want to share a bit of what influenced my creation. Rececently, I had the priviledge of meeting a lady who fits wigs for women undergoing chemo for breast cancer. She is a vibrant lady and what struck me about her was the fact that she loves to tell women during this difficult time to live it up when picking a wig -- choose a red wig if you've always wanted to be a red head or why not give a short and sassy cut a try? Basically, she tells women to live with excitement even in the midst of treatment! I loved how she sees cancer as a "life sentence" -- a time to fight with all you've got to live. So, for my card, I wanted to be bold, daring and tell someone else to live with excitement -- and to Breathe in & Breathe out in the process. I chose spunky and bold prints with sass, just like my wig-fitting friend Susan.

You can see above that I stamped two 1" strips with Power Poppy's Azalea stamp set. One time using Memento Espresso Truffle and the other time using Memento Rosebud ink. I then took some Copic Markers to accent the images -- I used C00, C01, R81, R83, RV00 and then I used YR0000 to shade around both stamped strips. The paper is from Echo Park's Love Story paper pack. The sentiment is from the Good Thinking: Renewal stamp set. I really thought this sentie was perfect for those facing cancer treatment.

Here's a close up of those fun and spunky strips!

Add a few punched strips and added a bit of bling and that, my friends, is it!

Now, back to the challenge! Click HERE  to play along in the Power Poppy challenge... AND... here's the fun news! If you play along in this challenge, you are "killing two birds with one stone!" You can get in on the challenges over at Splitcoast where there are more than $5000 up for grabs in prizes-- FYI Power Poppy is a prize sponsor! And, after you link up your creation there, link your creation on THIS post as well and double your chances for a prize! Fun stuff, right?

Some of my fellow "Bloomies" joined in on the fun, so be sure to stop by and see what these fine ladies have up their creative sleeves!

On to my creation!

For my card, I knew I wanted to use that darling little gingerbread house in the new Frosted Gingerbread set! Oh my, isn't it sweet? I started by stamping my image in Memento Espresso Truffle and then I colored it up with Copic Markers using E31, E55, R27, R21, Y01, Y06, YG17, YG13, YG11, BG0000 and G28. After I was done coloring, I did add a bit of razzle dazzle with the help of some glitter glue!

See?

I should mention that the paper is a mix of Bazzill and C'oredinations. I used a snippet of May Arts ribbon and a few Spellbinders dies -- Classic Circles LG and Beaded Circles. The embossed scalloped edge is from Stampin' Up and the top is a Swiss Dot Embossing Folder from Cuttlebug. Add a splash of rhinestones and some Antique Linen Distress ink and... voila! Done!
