A Card in a Jiffy!

Hey all and Happy Friday!!! Hope your week is ending on a high note. Mine is what I like to call rather "chill" -- last weekend brought my son's high school graduation and his all night graduation party with all his classmates. It was a whirlwind of activity which made me feel a wee bit brain dead this week! It is so hard to believe that the weekend is already here. TIME FLEW BY! And since time flew, I have to say that I didn't have a ton to spend in my craft room this week. So, I challenged myself. I literally set a timer for 30 minutes and said, "Okay, you have 30 minutes girl! Let's make a card!!!"

HOW DID I DO IT?

1. I PICKED A COOL SKETCH
For starters, I did a little homework before I began and scoured my Get Sketchy Pinterest Board HERE looking for a sketch. Because Pinterest can be a time sucker, I didn't count that in my 30 minutes but grabbed a cuppa joe and scrolled til I found this sketch below....

As you'll soon see, my card isn't exact but you can definitely see the influences!

2. I PICKED A COOL PAPER PACK

With my sketch picked out, I literally ripped out papers for each part of the sketch and set them aside. Then, I quickly figured out what papers would go where and started cutting! (Time is now about 6 minutes)

3. I PICKED AN IMAGE I HAD ALREADY CUT OUT & STAMPED
I don't know if you are anything like me, but I have a stash of uncolored images that sit in a drawer for a day when I don't have a ton of time to craft. I dig through and follow this formula that I'm listing above. I have to say that it is so much easier to make a card when 1. you know where you are going with layout and 2. can rely on a paper pack that is full of papers that are already designed to coordinate with each other! (Time is now 19 minutes)

SO, LET'S GET TO MY CREATION SO YOU CAN SEE HOW IT CAME TOGETHER!

After the base portion of my card was done, I took the primrose image from Power Poppy's Potted Primrose stamp set and then color matched my markers to the papers I had picked. I used R81, R83, R85, Y21, Y23, Y32, G20, G21 and G24. I added the sentiment using Versafine Black Onyx and embellished with a Stampin' Up border punch for the notebook style edge and then added some Stampin' Up candy dots. The other border punch is an old Martha Stewart punch. The base of the image -- the pot -- is paper pieced also using a snippet from the Echo Park Creative Agenda paper pad.

Here's a close up! I did accent the center of the flowers with a wee bit of glitter glue!

And that, my friends, is it! Like I said, I did time myself! I started at 6:12 PM and finished at 6:39 PM --- exactly 27 minutes from start to finish. So, you see, if you go in with a plan it's much easier. While I don't love creating on a time limit, this time it felt fun because it was more of a challenge!

Get to the Point!

Hello all and Happy Friday! Hope you have wonderful plans in the days ahead! Well, it's Power Poppy Friday, which means a few of the Bloomies got together to show off our most recent creativity using Power Poppy stamps! Fun stuff!

So, let's get to it! I had colored this image a while back after seeing what another Bloomie did with a few Copic markers and a dot here and a dot there. Who's that Bloomie? ALLY COPE! She did a Pointilism tutorial I followed HERE over on Splitcoaststampers.com!

For my main image, I used the Countryside Bouquet stamp set and then picked up a whole host of markers. I used YR00, TR04, YR07, YR09, B60, B63, B66, G20, G21, G24, G28, B00, B01, RV0000, RV00, Y23, and Y35. AFter I was done adding my dots, next came matting it up! I used some pink and white twine, added some glitter glue and then cut my image out using a Spellbinders Die (I looked for which die but couldn't find it on the Spellbinders website) I layered it all up with some Echo Park decorative paper and the die cut overlay is thanks to a Stampin' Up kit that I bought a couple years back. The sentiment is from the Daffodils Stamp set.  I used a little clip from Stampin' Up to add the sentiment to my card front.

And here's a close up!

And that, my friends, is it! I have to say that you can go as heavy or as light on this technique as you like. My coloring was pretty sparse compared to the beautiful display of color that Ally whipped up. You might want to click on over and give this technique a try!

Now it's time to turn things over to my fellow comrades in creativity -- the Bloom Brigade! Stop on over and see what they have in the spotlight over on their blogs!

Bees in Foxglove!

It's the 15th of the month, which means, sweet stamping friends, it's time to plant a new botanical in the Power Poppy Instant Garden Collection. This one is spiky and dramatic and offers up trumpet-like blossoms that just beckon you to color them up!

With shades of white, blue, pink and even soft purple, Bees in Foxglove is truly a sight to behold! Our latest addition to the Instant Garden Collection just happens to be one that's a tall beauty that's heavy on the drama! Check out the lush stalks of foxglove (Digitalis) with three plump bumblees buzzing around doing their bumblebee thing! I also love the fanciful sentiment that Marcy paired with this set. Can you say cheery and good for any and all occasions?

With that kind of introduction, let's get to my creation!

I have to admit, before Marcy penned this beauty, I didn't really even know what a Foxglove was! It took some investigating and once I did the "google" -- I discovered all the beautiful colors these bold blossoms come in! When my mom saw what I was coloring up, she surprised me with this beauty after a trip to our local nursery! How sweet is that? Now, all I need to do to be inspired is walk out my front door!

Honestly so many different color options -- why not try them all! Here's a peek at the markers that I reached for....

After coloring, it was just matting it up and adding a little razzle dazzle to the bumbles' wings thanks to some glitter glue. I also added two sizes of sprarkly sequins as well! Since this image is so detailed and rather large, I kept it simple on the layout -- just playing up the image itself.

Here's a close up folks!

And that, my friends, is it! Since the bees are all abuzz with this beauty, you can bet your bottom dollar that our team of Instant Gardeners and Bloom Brigade is too! You'll have to fly on over to their special places on the web to see what they have in store for you all!

Just Breathe......

Hello all and happy Friday! I've got a bit of fun to share today! So... let's get to it! With a brand new month, comes a brand new Power & Spark Challenge hosted by my cardmaking sistah Stacy Morgan is all about.... CUTTING IT OUT! As Stace says, "Simply cut around your blooms (or main image) and add that extra "Ooomph!" to impress the recipient with your mad cutting skills!" Love it!

Let's get to my creation!

Being that this is a 'Cut It Out' challenge, I decided to get a wee bit of help for this one and I turned to my Silhouette! I had made this file for the Orchids Rock stamp set and so, it was a perfect fit. At least I thought so!

When coloring up this beauty, I have to say I needed a little help. I have only seen this variety of orchid a few times. So, thanks to "the Google" I found this picture to serve as a bit of inspiration!

Source

I cut, stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and then, colored my image up with Copic markers, reaching for these shades....

After I was done coloring, the rest is matting it up! I added some background stamps, a little texture thanks to a Cuttlebug Embossing Folder and a wee bit of gold sponged to accent the embossing! The sentiment is from the Power Poppy stamp set Lilac Time.  It's a sentiment that hits home right now. With deadlines, and work and my baby boy graduating from high school in a few weeks, I am having to remind myself to "Just Breathe!!!" Sigh....

And here's a close up......

And that my friends is it, a peaceful & easy orchid all colored and cut out! You too can play along in Power Poppy's Cut It Out Challenge, all you need to do is get "snippy" with the scissors, or hit "cut" on your electronic cutting machine and you'll be in the running! JUST CLICK HERE  to read up on all the official details! Play along and you could win a free clear or digital stamp set of choice!

Before I go, I have to share the links for my beloved fellow Bloomies so that you can hop, skip and jump on over to their blogs to see what they whipped up on this fine Friday for all to see!
